“Tired” school garden becomes an outdoor classroom

A TIRED school garden has been transformed into a modern, bright and enjoyable “outdoor classroom” at St Joseph’s Primary School, Penketh.
It took just seven days for a team of hard-working individuals from the school’s parents and friends association to carry out the work.
The project involved the creation of an outdoor classroom utilising low maintenace artificial turf and associated ground works and levelling and  the installation of raised planters, providing the children with areas to learn about and enjoy gardening.
A “bug hotel” and a butterfly garden were provided to attract natural wildlife and insects allowing the children to learn about nature in a safe environment.
The project was overseen and managed by Brian McCoy of St Joseph’s Parents and Friends Association.
He said: “The garden was extremely hard work and would not have been achieved without the help and assistance of all those involved, I can not praise the companies involved – Osborne, Signature 1 Design and Build and Whitemoss Garden Centres – highly enough for all their assistance in bringing this project together.
“It was very close time wise in ensuring this was ready for the children’s arrival on Monday morning but seeing the delight on their face made it all worthwhile.”
