MP calls for re-think on children’s centre move

PARENTS are “very worried” about a proposal to move a popular children’s centre to a new location at Warrington.
The borough council has decided the Sandy Lane Children’s Centre, at Orford, should be moved to Orford Youth Base.
But Warrington North MP Helen Jones (pictured)  says the decision was made without consulting ward councillors. She is urging the council to think again.
She said: “I shall be writing to the Chief Executive to ask for this to be looked at again.
“Firstly, I cannot see how moving premises saves money.  The Youth Base would need a lot of work before it is suitable for small children.
“Secondly, teenagers and toddlers don’t mix well.
“Lastly, many of the families who currently use the centre would have a much longer walk to Orford.
“Parents are very worried about this proposal which has been announced without consultation with ward councillors.  It makes no sense to move from a purpose-built facility to one which will need to be adapted for small children and does not have the excellent outdoor facilities of Sandy Lane.
“I am calling on the council to think again. “
