THREE Warrington students are hoping businesses will assemble to help their award-winning app become a reality.
Priestley College’s Josh Rose, Eve Billington and Ben Dommet won the national competition Apps For Good to have their idea developed ahead of 22,000 others.
Now they need businesses in Warrington to upload suitable part-time jobs through their website www.assemblejobs.co.uk
Former Birchwood High School pupil Eve said: “We were so excited to win the competition, but now we really need the support of local businesses to make this happen.”
Eve, who is studying IT, Media Studies and Religious Studies, added: It’s free and easy to place the adverts so hopefully it is a win win idea for everyone involved. We’re hoping restaurants, clothes shops and similar businesses will see this as a benefit because hopefully it will make it easier to fill vacancies.”
AssembleJobs is being backed by international technology consultants Codelegs who have been holding regular skype meetings with the students to discuss its progress.
It won the Saving, Spending and Giving category – sponsored by Barclaycard – ahead of two other shortlisted ideas in the competition earlier this year.
The talented trio travelled to the Barbican in London where they presented their idea to eight executives from Barclaycard, Cap Gemini and Salesforce.com before mingling with more than 100 other representatives “selling” their idea.
Former Penketh High School pupil Josh, who is studying BTEC L£ IT and Maths GCSE at Priestley, added: “We started by talking about the kinds of things we needed help with and one of them was finding part-time jobs that we can do alongside studying at college.
“We felt that if it was something we were struggling with then other students would be as well and that’s how we decided on the idea.”
