“Black Friday” traffic hold-ups warning

3

TODAY – “Black Friday” – could see major traffic congestion in Warrington and police are urging car-borne shoppers looking for bargains to be patient and behave sensibly.
They warn that there could be unusually high volumes of traffic – not just today but also over the weekend as many shops extend bargain offers to Saturday and Sunday.
Historically, many people have taken to the roads across Cheshire in their hunt for bargains.
Last year, this caused problems around the county.
Shoppers should plan their journey in advance, which might include considering going out at a different time – later in the evening, for example.
They should also prepare for the possibility of being stuck in traffic for lengthy periods and ensure they have a supply of food and drink and warm blankets or clothing in the vehicle.
Chief Inspector Giles Orton said: “Wherever you decide to shop this weekend you are reminded to behave rationally and with dignity. We recognise the excitement this weekend can generate – but don’t let your  Black Friday turn into a Blue Christmas.”

  1. I wont be shopping anywhere today. All the hype about Black Friday has driven me insane and I have no wish to go anywhere and battle with hoards of people just to get a so called bargain. I noticed Curry’s do have a fridge freezer on offer in their black friday event though with a whopping £300 off according to their website and you could order on-line. Sounds a bargain but a quick google showed me their black ‘sale’ price is the same normal price that you can get them from elsewhere any day of the week/month/year. To me that’s a con but then some shops do that all the time and people fall for it !! Little moan over…..

  2. Very little extra traffic on the roads this morning and even fewer shoppers out there, after the BBC Watchdog programme last night exposing the tricks and cons used by retailers massaging prices weeks before Black Friday only to drop them down again today they proved that the prices are much the same as usual… I think Black Friday has had its day now ..
