Youngsters help launch national reading campaign

SEVEN young people from Warrington have taken part in the launch of a new national scheme that encourages volunteers to inspire people to explore their love of reading.
Reading Hack is a new initiative led by The Reading Agency, with a vision of inspiring young people to share their love of reading with others so they can gain valuable work experience that can be added to their CVs.
The young people, who volunteered across LiveWire’s 11 libraries in Warrington, were one of only four groups nationwide chosen to attend the launch event in London. They were selected as they are known for the great work they do to promote reading across the town.
The volunteers were given the chance to present three ideas that would help change the way young people read. Their ideas included a book character hack, creating an emoji for different stories and developing a soundtrack to people’s favourite books.
Jade Schofiled, aged 18, from Longford, was also given the chance to make an introductory speech to the 150 people at the event, which took place at the London Free Word Centre.
Chris Everett, senior LiveWire advisor for reading, said: “It’s fantastic that our young volunteers were chosen to attend this event. The ideas they presented at the launch were really well received by the audience and their passion for reading is evident in their commitment to helping others explore their love for books.”
