£3m funding boost for rural areas

A PARTNERSHIP of four councils – including Warrington – has launched a major initiative to deliver nearly £3 million funding to rural areas.
The Cheshire Leader Programme aims to give a funding boost to rural areas of Warrington and beyond.
Warrington Borough Council is working in partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire East Council and Trafford Council.
The Leader programme aims to help create jobs and stimulate economic growth by providing funding for businesses and organisations looking to begin or expand their operations in the rural areas.
Unlike many other funding programmes, the project is delivered locally rather than nationally, with decisions on where the grant money is spent being made by an appointed local action group of representatives from various organisations in the area.
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “We are growing a strong economy in Warrington – in our rural areas as well as the more well-established urban areas.
“The Cheshire Leader team have worked extremely hard to secure the funding for this project and I’m thrilled that they are now open for business.
“The team are ready to start developing projects with potential applicants as well as working with the expertise offered by the local action groups to ensure the funding is put to the best possible use.
“The programme will run until 2020 and we are keen to hear from anyone in Warrington who wishes to discuss an upcoming project, so be sure to get in touch!”
