A chance to say thanks to hospital staff

PATIENTS and members of the public are being given the chance to nominate doctors, nurses, volunteers and other hospital staff in Warrington and Halton Hospitals’ annual “Thank You” awards.
It’s the sixth year the awards have been held, offering a chance to say thanks to staff from Warrington Hospital, Halton General Hospital and the Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre who have gone over and above in the call of duty for local people.
Any patient, relative or visitor can nominate an individual member of staff or team who have looked after them in the last year or over a longer period of time.
All they need to do is send as much information as possible to the hospital on the person or team they want to nominate so that they have the best possible chance of winning. There are a range of categories
from employee and team of the year through to rising star and volunteer of the year in the awards.
To make it easier to nominate the hospital will forward nominations from the public into the best category.
Nominations are judged by a panel made up of public governors of the hospitals and the winners go on to receive special recognition at an awards event.
Winners of the hospital thank you awards nominated by local people have also gone on to receive national recognition for their work.
Last year’s team of the year – the Forget Me Not dementia unit –
were finalists in this year’s national dementia friendly awards.
Nurse specialist Janet Green has seen her project on patient hydration shortlisted in the prestigious Health Service Journal awards, and last year’s rising star, ward manager Carol Mcevoy, is in the running for the NHS North West Leadership awards next month.
Mel Pickup, chief executive of Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The thank you awards give us a chance to recognise some of the fantastic work that goes on at the hospitals each and every day. We’re keen to receive as many nominations as possible this year for the awards from local people who have used our services and want to have the chance to say thanks to the staff who have cared for them and their loved ones. We get some incredibly moving stories each year in
the nominations and this year we are hoping for more public nominations than ever.
“It’s not just about our doctors and nurses – its about every member of the hospital team from volunteers through to people in unsung roles behind the scenes. I’m incredibly proud that several of our winners have gone on to receive national recognition after winning the awards at the hospitals for their commitment to local patients. It’s our chance to say thanks and celebrate their work.”
To nominate, visit the hospital website at www.whh.nhs.uk/thankyou where you can download a form or send a simple email with a nomination using a template available there. Alternatively, call 01925 664222 and the hospital can send out a form or answer any questions on nominating.
The closing date for nominations is November 23.
