Basic Car Checks for Worry-Free Driving
Statistically you are much more likely to break down in the colder months.  Carrying out basic winter checks can minimise your risk of breaking down and ensure your car performs well in worsening weather.

•    Check your coolant levels regularly and top up with quality antifreeze.  A reputable garage should check concentration levels to ensure your car is protected from the cold and will also advise if the antifreeze needs changing.  Dirty antifreeze can cause serious issues with performance.
•    The battery is the most common cause of breakdown at this time of year with batteries over 5 years old often struggling in cold temperatures.  Get it checked to avoid any inconvenient failures.
•    For safe driving ensure your tyres have a minimum of 3mm tread and check tyre pressures every two weeks.
•    Now is a good time to renew worn windscreen wipers.  Keep the screen clean inside to reduce dazzle.
•    To avoid freezing, use a good quality 50% antifreeze mix screen wash.
•    Protect doors from freezing shut by applying a thin layer of Vaseline to door seals and a squirt of WD-40 to locks.
