Housing staff go on a “memory walk”

MORE than 50 staff from a Warrington-based housing group stepped out on a “memory walk” to support their chosen charity of the year – the Alzheimer’s Society.
Birchwood Forest Park was painted blue with Alzheimer’s branding and fundraising pots to mark the first of a number of events organised by staff at Your Housing Group.
The group first announced its partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society in June after a staff vote. The charity was seen as a natural fit for the housing provider, as it is one of the largest providers of retirement living accommodation in the UK.
Customers living at Ryfields Retirement Village in Orford also joined in on the celebrations and money raising, hosting the official launch of the charity’s partnership with Your Housing Group with a vintage themed afternoon tea and celebration.
This year the group has set its fundraising sights high and hope to exceed last year’s total of £31,660raised for charities, which included £19,000 raised for former charity of the year, Macmillan.
The Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. There are currently 85,000 people with dementia in the UK with numbers expected to rise to one million by 2021.
Ian Johnson, group director for procurement at Your Housing Group said: “It was a great start and fantastic to see so many staff not only enjoying the fresh air but also getting behind such a great charity.”
