WARRINGTON Wolves Prop Ashton Sims has committed his future to the club until the close of the 2017 season, with Gary Wheeler and Joe Philbin also taking up their playing options for 2016.

The 30 year-old, having joined the Wolves from this year’s NRL Grand Final winners, Queensland Cowboys, recently showed he’s more than just a safe pair of hands on the pitch after stealing the nation’s hearts in June this year.

Labelled as a ‘fans favourite,’ Sims wore an in-game microphone during a quarter-final Challenge Cup win over Leigh Centurions. This particular appearance highlighted his success as a player and his commitment to the town and team of Warrington. This has been apparent since he landed on English soil last November and the club are delighted this is to continue for the foreseeable future.

“He’s an inspirational leader and has proved to be an integral part of the team both on and off the field. Ashton has shown a real passion for Warrington and it’s great that he’s focused on this team and our success right though to 2017,” commented Coach Tony Smith.

Meanwhile  Joe Philbin and Gary Wheeler are also confirmed for 2016 after having their playing options for next season taken up by Warrington Wolves.

A majority of the first team will be back in action training from Monday 2nd November with some overseas players joining them on 16th November.

England squad members Ben Currie, Chris Hill and Bennie Westwood will be joining later on this year after some scheduled recovery from their international fixtures against New Zealand in the 2015 Test Series.
