Woman rescued from canal embankment

A WOMAN was rescued from a canal embankment at Warrington shortly before midnight – after an operation involving four fire engines, a rescue boat and a rope rescue unit.
Fire crewss from Warrington, Stockton Heath and Knutsford went to the scene in Ellesmere Road, Stockton Heath after receiving a report of someone stuck on the embankment of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Height safety equipment was used during the rescue and the woman was then passed into the care of ambulance crews.
Firefighters were at the scene for about 25 minutes.
It is not clear how the woman came to be on the canal embankment.
