AN exciting new children’s play area has given residents of Great Sankey  something to celebrate.
Mayor of Warrington Geoff Settle officially opened the refurbished playground and Great Sankey Primary choir entertained guests including local residents, representatives from the council and Cheshire Police.
The new playground has been funded by Warrington Borough Council and WREN grant funding.
It boasts eight pieces of new equipment aimed at the 2-8 year old age range and specific pieces for toddlers, chosen following feedback from a playground consultation.
Cllr Jean Carter, Warrington Borough Council’s lead member for children’s services and ward councillor for Great Sankey South, said: “We are grateful to WREN for helping us fund this refurbishment. It’s important to work with residents on local projects and by consulting with them we are able to provide facilities that they want to see that will have a positive impact on their everyday lives.”
Cllr Kate Hannon, lead member for leisure, community and culture, added: “I am delighted that the playground is now open for families to enjoy and it will be a real asset to the local community.”
The council were successful in making a WREN bid for £50,000 for the project.
WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Richard Smith, WREN’s grant manager for Warrington and Halton, said: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to children and young people. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
