A NOT-for-profit community shop at Warrington, partly-run by volunteers, has won the “retailer of the month” award from UK delivered wholesaler company Palmer and Harvey.
Hollins Green Community Shop only opened earlier this year in response to demand from locals who face a three-and-a-half mile journey to the nearest supermarket.
It was chosen ahead of hundreds of entrants from across the UK because of its commitment to youth engagement projects and giving back to the community.
The shop is run by manager Julie Atkinson with a small staff backed up by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, many of them retired people from the village.
The retailer of the month campaign has been running for about 12 months and is designed to recognise excellence in the independent retail community and promote upcoming retail stars.
Each winner receives 90 outers of free product from the Independent brand range.
