Donors wanted to help blood cancer victims

THE search is on in Warrington to find people with matching tissue-types to blood cancer victims in need of lifesaving stem cell donations.
Charity group Delete Blood Cancer UK is holding an event on Saturday people are invited to register as potential blood stem cell donors to see if they could be a match for one of the 37,000 worldwide who need a blood stem cell donation for their survival – including Nicola Byrnes from Warrington, who has leukaemia.
Forty-five year old Nicola is married to Patrick, and has two step-sons, Callum and Jonah. She works as a business analyst at a telecommunications firm.
Nicola is very sporty and loves nothing more than mountain-biking in North Wales. She married Patrick in the Caribbean last year, her
favourite holiday destination. She was only diagnosed with leukaemia at the start of the summer but is now in a race against time to find a suitable donor who could donate some of their blood stem cells to her.
The event takes place from 9am to 6pm on Saturday at Pure Gym in Chetham Court, Warrington.
Those in general good health and aged 17 to 55 are invited to go along and take a few minutes to swab the insides of their cheeks to register as potential blood stem cell donors.
Charity spokesperson Aga Chrosciel said: “Registering as a potential blood stem cell donor is so easy. It takes minutes but
could lead to you saving someone’s life. Please come along on Saturday and register to help find a matching donor for Nicola and all those in need of a lifesaving blood stem cell donation.”
Anyone can register in five minutes online and request a cheek swab kit that will enable them to do their own tissue test to become a potential blood stem cell donor through the Delete Blood Cancer UK website: www.deletebloodcancer.org.uk
