Wolves swan song squad for Dragons Clash

WARRINGTON Wolves boss Tony Smith has named his 19 man squad for the visit of Catalans Dragons on Saturday afternoon in their last home game of the 2015 season as a number of players make their Halliwell Jones swan song.

Roy Asotasi, Joel Monaghan, Richie Myler and Gareth O’Brien are among those named in the 19 man squad who will not be at the Wolves next season.

The French outfit come in on the back of a win over league leaders Leeds Rhinos last weekend but the Wolves are focused on finishing on a positive and came out 26-18 winners last time the Dragons were at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The teams sit on equal points in sixth and seventh spot, with the push for fifth still on the cards for both.

Head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said on this week’s opposition: “Catalans had a good win on the weekend and they played confidently. They are dangerous and have shown that throughout the season. While they haven’t got the best record on the road they have had some narrow defeats at different stages away from home so we won’t take anything for granted. We will need to be a lot stronger in defence than we were last week as they are a good attacking team. We need to be on our game.

“It’s important for us to finish strong for the sake of our supporters and we are keen to finish the season on a high. We understand we can’t make the finals but there is a chance of making fifth position and finishing further up the table than what we are at the moment. That’s what we’d like to do; some of that is out of our hands but at the same time all we can do is put ourselves in the picture and perform well in these last two matches.”

This week’s 19-man sees Gareth O’Brien in, with Sam Wilde missing out.
