WARRINGTON Town climbed to third in the table with a 2-3 victory away at Mossley, with all five goals coming in the first half.

Town opened the scoring in the 13th minute with some great football down the right as Gillespie’s shot was only parried by the keeper with Gahgan firing the ball home in front of the travelling barmy army.

But the hosts were level within two minutes as Horrocks sneaked in at the back post to shoot past Wills, after Warrington had failed to clear a free kick.

Town were almost back in front within a minute as Gillespie’s curling shot was scrambled clear by the Mossley keeper. From the corner Gillespie headed wide from six yards out.

Warrington eventually regained the advantage on 23 minutes when Kilheeney flicked on Wills’ long clearance to Gahgan who lobbed the defender allowing Gillespie the chance to nod the ball home.

But Warrington again failed to hold onto the advantage as Mossley levelled within four minutes as Marley bundled the ball into the net after the Town defence again failed to clear.

Back came Warrington within three minutes as Gillespie controlled Metcalfe’s cross and poked the ball towards goal, with Kilheeney burying a rebound for the final goal action of the game.

Five minutes before the break McCarten saw his goal bound header tipped over the bar by the keeper.

Warrington made a substitution early in the second half as O’Donnell came on for Robinson.

Goal mouth action was relatively scarce for much of the second half, with the home side having slightly the better of any chances – Warrington’s best efforts were from Gillespie on 68 minutes when he fired over the bar after good build up play by Roberts and Burke and three minutes later Town hit Mossley on the break as Gillespie laid on the ball to Gahgan who saw his shot blocked by the keeper.

Deep in injury time the home team almost got a late equaliser when substitute Hibbert headed wide with a free header from six yards out.

But as it was Warrington held on for three valuable points, making it 10 from 12 in their last four outings.
