Garage to become a house – despite objections

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead to a plan to convert a stone-built garage into a house – despite objections from a nearby resident and the local parish council.
Walton Parish Council had opposed the scheme in Walton Road on the grounds it would result in over-development of the site and would be out of a character with the area.
The nearby resident’s objection was on the grounds of inadequate parking provision.
But the borough  council’s development management committee decided, after visiting the site, the scheme could go ahead.
The garage adjoins a locally listed house and the plan involves converting the garage into a dwelling and also rebuilding an existing vinery to create a garden store and bike store.
Committee members decided the garage – already a prominent feature on the street scene which added to the character and appearance of the area – would be improved by the conversion.
They imposed a condition that proposed dormer windows be lowered slightly.
Officers recommended the scheme be approved and said while there was only room for two off-street parking spaces, there was adequate space on-street in the vicinity to provide more parking without damaging residential amenity for causing highway safety problems.
