WARRINGTON students have stepped into the spotlight to create a new video promoting career advice available to young people in the town.

Warrington Borough Council has teamed up with Penketh High School to showcase the council’s careers for young people service.

The service supports young people looking for advice on next steps in their career and can be found in Contact Warrington on Horsemarket Street.

The video was created and produced by Penketh High School media department, starring Dawood Mughal, aged 16, and filmed and edited by Ethan Waterhouse aged 17.

Young people who are currently taking part in the Princes’ Trust Team Programme also supported and starred in the video.

The 16-week personal development programme is delivered by Groundwork, and offers work experience, qualifications, practical skills, community projects and a residential week.

The ever-popular annual careers event will also be taking place on Thursday 3 September, 3-8pm at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub. The event will see representative from colleges, training providers and employers come together to offer young people an insight into the many and varied jobs and opportunities available.

Cllr Jean Carter, executive board member for children’s services, said: “As a council, we are absolutely committed to supporting and advising our young people choose the right path for them.

“Our careers team do a great job in ensuring that young people are made aware of further learning and work opportunities and are always available to support anyone looking for extra advice.

“The new video is a really effective way of promoting our careers for young people service I’m sure will encourage more young people to take up the offer of advice and support.

“If you are a young person, looking for a job or training, I would encourage you, your family and friends to come along to the careers event in September. Last year’s event was attended by 280 young people – so don’t miss out!”
