Free blood pressure checks on offer

RESIDENTS of Warrington are being offered free blood pressure checks at  various locations around the town throughout this month in an exercise targeting an estimated 21,000 people in the borough who are unaware they have high blood pressure.
The borough council, in partnership with Live Wire and Warrington Wolves, is offering the free blood pressure checks, encouraging residents to find out what their blood pressure is, so they can take steps to reduce it if needed.
Having consistently high blood pressure puts people at increased risk of heart disease and strokes, so it is really important to have it checked to avoid serious illness.
Blood pressure check drop-ins are taking place from 7pm until 8pm on Monday evenings throughout August at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium.
People can also have the checks done at Livewire Wellbeing Wednesdays, running from 4pm until 7pm at various locations: Great Sankey Leisure Centre on August 19, Woolston Leisure Centre on August 26, Orford Jubilee Park on September 2.
In addition, pharmacies in Warrington offer blood pressure checks.
Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, the council’s lead member for public health and wellbeing, said: “We want people to take advantage of these sessions as you can have high blood pressure without having any symptoms, so the only way to know for sure if your blood pressure is right is to have it checked.
“So, this summer we are offering as many opportunities as we can for people to come and have their blood pressure checked for free.”
