Intrepid adventurers close to £10k challenge target

WARRINGTON based businessmen Ben Dawbarn, Robert Foden and Paul Dixon tackled six different peaks in five different countries and are tantalisingly close to their target of raising £10,000 for charity.

St. Rocco’s will receive a third of the sponsorship raised by the mammoth challenge, which saw the businessmen scale Snowdon and Scafell Pike in Wales and England, Slieve Donard in Ireland, Ben Nevis in Scotland, and Grand Paradiso and Cosmique in Italy.

Their original plan to scale Mont Blanc in Geneva was thwarted by the worst weather conditions on the mountain since 2003, but not to be deterred, the brave team  took on Cosmique and Grand Paradiso instead – making their challenge even harder.

As if their legs weren’t aching enough, they then flew back to the UK to complete Ride London, a 100 mile cycle event in the capital.

The ‘Ecoshred 5 Peak Charity Challenge’ has so far raised a running total of just over £8,000, with the team hopeful of reaching the magic 10, to be split between St. Rocco’s, GAIN and  the Royal Brompton and Harefields Hospitals charity.

Ben, a legal practitioner, owns confidential waste disposal and recycling company Ecoshred, Rob is a property developer and Paul owns chartered architects practice Mimar. They were joined in the UK-based events by close friend Ross Clarke , who also drove the van with equipment back to London from Geneva.

Ben said: “When we set out planning this challenge we wanted to take on something that not only we would enjoy, but something that would push us to our physical and mental limits.

“We also wanted to raise money from some amazing charities that have touched all of our lives personally.

“At times it was tough but that only brought us closer together and more determined to succeed, as the struggling we were facing is nothing in comparison to that of which many people face every day and if we could do something to help those people it was all worth it. “
