A LONGFORD community group has benefited from the council’s Local Fund after applying for cash to support their group.

The Young at Heart community group based at Longford Neighbourhood Services Centre meet every Thursday for lunch and lots of fun activities.

The group were granted £400 to help with costs to rent a room for the group and general running costs.

The funding appraisal panel felt that their bid met the council’s pledges to help build strong and active communities as well as the central board’s priority around reducing social isolation.

Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Our Local Fund is a fantastic opportunity for groups to deliver a community project and I would urge any group in need of support to apply.

“It’s great to hear first-hand about how the fund is helping groups such as Young at Heart to continue their brilliant work. Well done to all those involved.”
