Orford Park Seniors bowled over

AN ORFORD community group organised and enjoyed a day of bowls thanks to the council’s Local Fund.

The Orford Park Seniors applied to the central neighbourhood team’s Local Fund and were granted £600 to hold an intergenerational bowling day at the Orford Park green.

The day was hailed a great success with teams aged 5-16 and 6-21 playing against the senior team.

Ken Gosgrove, chair of Orford Park Seniors, said: “We had a great day playing against some younger players – and in the sunshine too!”

Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Groups can apply to the Local Fund for £50 to £5,000 and Orford Park Seniors is a brilliant example of how groups are benefitting from it.

“The funding appraisal panel felt that the group’s bid helped to meet the council’s pledge to help build strong and active communities.

“I’m glad that the Local Fund is being put to good use and I would urge any community group to take advantage of the fund and to apply.”
