Councillor to tackle Coast to Coast Challenge!

WARRINGTON Councillor Russ Bowden will soon be lacing his boots and packing his tent ready to fulfill his ambition to walk from Coast to Coast.

Cllr Bowden and his father had planned to complete this challenge together.  His father sadly passed away in 2009 after his battle with cancer, and the following year his father-in-law was cared for at St. Rocco’s during his final weeks.

Since this time, the whole family has become involved with St. Rocco’s Hospice, taking part in events, and giving time, with daughter Emily volunteering at weekends; helping other families during difficult times.

Cllr Bowden, who is a member of the Council’s Executive Board, will be making this special journey in memory of both his father and father-in-law, walking the 192 mile route across Northern England.  He will be joined by his daughter, Emily’s boyfriend Liam for the trip, starting in St. Bees on  July 10, and they are aiming to finish in Robin Hood’s Bay 12 days later.  The Coast to Coast challenge stretches across 3 National Parks from the Irish Sea to the North Sea, crossing the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.

Cllr Bowden, who will be raising money for St. Rocco’s Hospice, which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses, saod: “The care and support that we received from everybody there was amazing – it really is a special place”.
