THE PEACE Centre in Warrington, fell silent at 11:30am today (July 7), to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2005 ‘7/7’ attacks in London.

As part of a special memorial event, school children from Priesthorpe School in Leeds and Burnage Academy for Boys in Manchester, are attending an anti-extremism workshop and discussion hosted as part of the Foundation’s Think project.

For the past 10 years, the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace has worked with survivors of the terror attack, as well as the schools from Leeds where the bombers attended as pupils, providing support and delivering projects like the counter extremism education project Think.

Through the Think project, the Foundation works with young people to reduce their susceptibility to extremism, helping them to develop the skills needed to consider carefully the consequences of their actions.Nick-Taylor.jpg

Nick Taylor, (pictured) Chief Executive of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, said: “Since the devastating events 10 years ago, the Foundation for Peace has been working with schools and survivors and families of those who died, to develop projects to combat all forms of hateful extremism, which is why it was so important for us to host a special memorial event at the Peace Centre.

“The Foundation for Peace is committed to working to get young people at risk of radicalisation to re-THINK the way they behave and encourage them to become responsive, rather than reactive. We are fully aware that violent extremist groups use prejudice and discrimination as a way to gain support. It’s vital, therefore, that we make young people realise that there is another way so they can turn their back on extremism, and become positive leaders within their peer group and society as a whole.”
