Firefighters rescue ducklings from silt

FIRE crews from Warrington came to the rescue when a duck and a number of ducklings became stuck in silt in a reservoir overflow.
ducklings rescue 2The incident was near Appleton Reservoir and a fire engine from Warrington Fire Station was sent to the scene.
Firefighters helped a RSPCA inspector rescue the frightened duck and her ducklings from the overflow.
They did not appear to have been harmed by their ordeal.
Fire crews from Warrington, Widnes and Leigh were involved in a two and-a-half hour battle to extinguish a fire in a large grain store near to Old Alder Lane, Burtonwood.
Three firefighters wore breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used in the operation. Extension ladders were also used.
In another incident, firefighters assisted paramedics to release a casualty trapped in a vehicle after a crash in Dewhurst Road, Birchwood. A high pressure air bag was used in the rescue.
Early today, crews were again called out – this time to deal with a tree on fire in Lewis Avenue, Bewsey.
The tree was close to a house, but no damage was caused to the property.
