FORMER Commonwealth Games gold medal winning gymnast Craig Heap will be the “Sporting Champion” at this year’s Cheshire and Warrington School Games.
His appearance will give the festival a major boost and will inspire the  children taking part to achieve their very best.
It is the second year that Craig has been involved on the day which he last year described as “awesome.”
Youngsters from schools across Warrington as well as from the rest of Cheshire will compete in the festival on July 8 at  Macclesfield Leisure Centre and the adjacent Fallibroome Academy.
More than 1,000 children will take part across nine different sports throughout the day including Athletics, Rounders, Golf, Table Tennis and Gymnastics. The smooth running of the day will be made possible by almost 100 Young Leader volunteers ensuring the games is truly “for the young people, by the young people”.
Duncan Setterington, Active Cheshire’s strategic lead for education said: “We are delighted to be leading on this programme and working  with some exciting partnerships to bring this flagship summer school sport festival to Cheshire East for the first time in its history”
Through the work of school games organisers across Cheshire and Warrington delivering local rounds of competition the programme aims to reach every school in the subregion.  Good luck to everyone who has made it through to the School Games finals, we hope you have a fantastic day!
