FOR the second year in succession, music student Meera Maharaj is to organise a concert to raise money for the Warrington Foodbank.
Friends from as far afield as Australia and Hong Kong, current studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester will join Meera in a performance of music for flute, piano and ‘cello at St Wilfrid’s Church, Grappenhall, on July 3 at 7.30pm.
They will play works by Brahms, Haydn, Debusy, Dvorak and others others.
Last year, the concert raised £1,200, together with 340kg of food donated by the audience.
This year they hope to do even better.
Flautist Meera, from Grappenhall and a former pupil of Lymm High School, said: “It was a thrill to perform for a such a large and appreciative crowd last year and the event was more successful than I ever dreamed possible.
“The demands on the Foodbank have not gone away. As musicians, we are doing what we love to put something back into the community.  This time I have been lucky to get the fundraising off to a flying start as Johnson’s Hairdressing have kindly sponsored the whole event. Other local businesses such as Egertons Estates,  RG Hewitt Building Contractors and the Pilates and Reformer Academy have also been happy to lend their support.
“Local minister and founding manager of Warrington Foodbank, Dr John Dolan, who recently passed away, really loved classical music and gave us lots of encouragement. We are very pleased to dedicate our event to his memory, recognising the wonderful work he did for local people going hungry.”
