LYMM Rugby Club’s fundraising for the Lymm Grass Roots Clubhouse Appeal is well under way, with over 400 guests attending a Sportsman’s Evening in the summer marquee and entertained by Welsh International and British Lion legend Phil Bennett.

Regaling the enraptured audience with many hilarious rugby tales, Phil also took time to congratulate Lymm RFC for being such a great example of grass roots rugby.

“This is the kind of club where you can spend all your life, learning the game, then playing it for years and having a great time. I truly admire what is happening here and wish you all every success. You have a gem of a rugby club!”

Outgoing Club President Simon Plumb commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome, and listen to, a real hero of the rugby world. Phil, more than anyone, understands the culture and spirit of a community rugby club and he was both hugely supportive and complimentary.”
