Celebrating national Carers Week 2015

Carers can get advice, find out about the support on offer and meet people from a range of support services during National Carers’ Week, 8 to 14 June 2015.

Warrington Borough Council is reaching out to carers across the borough during the week to tell them about all the support and help available to them, by hosting the annual Carers Conference 9.30am – 3pm, 10 June at Orford Jubilee Hub.

The conference will provide carers with useful information on how to access the services and support available, and will have an opportunity to meet with carer representatives from a wide range of support services and voluntary organisations.

It will offer a forum for carers to meet up and share their experiences, and for the agencies that provide the support to network and improve their services.

Guests will also be able to have some fun by taking part in activities, including tai chi lessons, a drumming workshop to help to relieve stress and a digital workshop to show carers how to get online and use the internet to find support.

Cllr Pat Wright, (pictured) executive board member for strategic health and adult social care, said: “We are committed to listening to carers and ensuring the support services are as good as they can be for carers and those they care for.

“The work carers do is invaluable for our community, and too often goes unrecognised as they support their loved ones with dedication on a daily basis. They do a tremendous job, which can be extremely stressful and that is why it is important we recognise what they do and make sure they are getting the support that they need.”

The conference will get an update on the Warrington Carers Strategy 2012-2015 and an introduction to the Care Act, highlighting any changes that may affect carers. There will also be presentations by Dementia Friendly Communities and the Neighbourhood Team.

The conference is a pre-booked event, for more information contact Lindsay Turner via email [email protected] or call (01925) 573489
