Leading a full life with dementia

IT is quite possible to have a good and full life while suffering from dementia – that was the essential message from a well-attended dementia workshop held at the Princeway Medical Centre, Frodsham.
Hosted by the Patient Participation Group (PPG) of the Frodsham Medical Practice, the workshop was led by Jane Stubbs, from the Alzheimer’s Society.
A “dementia champion”, her role in the Society is to offer information, guidance and support to carers, people with dementia and their families.
PPG chairman Marie Birkenhead said: “Jane started by explaining the different types of dementia and how it can affect people of all ages.
“She immediately engaged with the audience with a lively question and answer session and followed this with two thought provoking activities, which  challenged us all, and revealed how much we still have to learn about the disease.
“All of this helped to enforce and re-enforce her essential message – that it is quite possible to a have good and full life with dementia.”
At the end of the workshop, all those present agreed to become “Dementia Friends” and to take action to help to make the local community into a more caring community where those with dementia no longer have to feel isolated and lonely.
Jane Stubbs is willing to speak to other groups, however large or small, and can be contacted by phone 01606 781110 or e-mail [email protected]
