Experimental parking ban

TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington are to impose strict parking restrictions on a number of roads in the Wilderspool area to clamp down on “dangerous and obstructive” parking.
An experimental no waiting at any time order will be imposed on both sides of Gainsborough Road near its junction with Wilderspool Causeway.
In addition, similar orders will be imposed in respect of Boswell Avenue, Landseer Avenue, Stafford Road, Greenall’s Avenue, Cooper’s Place and Wilderspool Crescent.
A borough council spokesperson said it seems that some employees of businesses in Stockton Heath and from the Greenall’s Business Park used to park all day on the car park at the local Morrison’s Supermarket. However, Morrison’s had now introduced a time limit on their car park and this had caused a displacement of vehicles into the surrounding residential roads.
Most of the parking that took place was sensible and considerate, but some dangerous and obstructive parking had been observed close to junctions and on inappropriate sections of the highway.
The police have been monitoring the area and had issued fixed penalty notices.
But local councillors and residents had requested that permanent traffic management measures be implemented as a matter of urgency. Therefore, the council were proposing to implement the minimum measures felt necessary to maintain access and road safety in the area.
Yellow lines would be introduced on an experimental basis giving the opportunity to study the parking patterns after implementation so that the location of the displaced parking and its impact could be monitored before deciding whether to make the yellow lines permanent.
The order will come ino force on May 18 and remain in force for up to 18 months.
