Disputed house plan wins approval

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for a house extension which has already been partly built  but is not in accordance with approved plans.
The development is at a semi-detached house in Marina Avenue, Great Sankey and involves a single storey side and rear extension.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee were told plans for the extension were originally approved last year. Work started and had reached an advanced stage when it was brought to the council’s attention by the applicant that  the work was not proceeding in accord with the approved plans.
The applicant subsequently sought permission for the amended design but this was refused on the ground that it would cause unacceptable harm to the character and appearance of the house and the surrounding street scene.
However, the applicant had later come up with a solution that would meet the objections.
Officers believed the modifications would be sympathetic to the appearance of the house and would not cause significant harm to the street scene. They recommended the scheme be now approved – and councillors agreed.
