“A lot to answer for in Warrington North”

WARRINGTON North is the 476th worst constituency out of 533 for social mobility, according to a report from the Sutton Trust, which campaigns for improved social mobility through education
It’s a damning report says Cllr Stefan Krizanac, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for the constituency – who points out that since 1997 it has been represented by Labour MP Helen Jones and that for 13 of those years it was under a Labour Government of which she was a part.
Additionally, for all but five years since the Warrington Unitary Council was formed in 1998, it has been run by Labour administrations.
Cllr Krizanac (pictured) said:  “Warrington is an aspirational town with relatively high incomes, yet this report shows that in the Warrington North constituency social mobility for those from the poorest households has stalled.
“The chances of children from the poorest households have failed to improve.
“Only the Liberal Democrats have concentrated on measures in education, early years support and free school meals for all infants.
“After only five years of Coalition government, these have started to make a difference and given the opportunity for those from the poorest households to get on in life.
“Labour have a lot to answer for in promising a lot but then failing the most vulnerable in Warrington North.”
The Sutton Trust was founded in 1997 to improve social mobility through education.
It works to combat educational inequality and prevent the subsequent waste of talent and is particularly concerned with breaking the link between educational opportunities and family background.
