Housing group keeps its promise

WARRINGTON-based housing association, Your Housing Group, has kept its “community promise” – to give 602 volunteering hours in the first year of being in their new headquarters in Birchwood.
Nearly 150 members of staff at the building – 602 Birchwood Park – gave their time to support community projects and initiatives.
These included refurbishing a community centre at Warrington, putting on a festival for 130 younger people near Altrincham and the clearing of a woodland area for a primary school in Kirkby, which has since been nominated for a green award.
In addition, during “Responsible Business Week” April 20-27, run by Business in the Community, the group’s board members took up the challenge and spent a week volunteering for a range of initiatives across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, West Cumbria and the Staffordshire Moorlands.
These included a community centre refurbishment, teaching children to cook healthy meals, helping at a foodbank, acting as an advisor at a job club, and taking part in a community clear-up.
Group chairman Kathy Cowell said: “At Your Housing Group our core values are based on pride, passion and creativity and this challenge gave us a vehicle to really put these words into action.
“Everyone worked so hard and we have been able to make a difference to so many communities.”
Your Housing Group has committed to doing a further 602 hours of volunteering this year.
