BUSINESSMAN Sam Wareing, 27, is running he London Marathon tomorrow (Sunday) in aid of Harry & Co, the Warrington-based charity that raises money to support maternity bereavement services at Warrington Hospital.
It is Sam’s first marathon and it’s going to be a trek through the pain barrier for the former student at Priestley College, who has overcome shin splints to complete his training routine for the big day.
He said: “I am a trustee of Harry & Co and I’m very proud to be raising funds for what is a heartfelt cause.”
Harry & Co was founded by Kate and Chris Tinker following the stillbirth of their son Harry at 41 weeks in May 2010.
They now work closely with Warrington Hospital to ensure the maternity
bereavement suite and support services are equipped with the right tools and environment to support parents going through the same heartbreak Kate and Chris suffered.
“I have a strategy worked out to get me through the 26 miles-plus,” says Sam, who got to know Kate and Chris through them being the charity of choice of Warrington Wolves Ben Westwood, while Sam was on Ben’s testimonial committee.
“I’m planning to run a mile and then walk a minute to get me through in about five hours.”
And once he’s recovered, Sam’s planning to tackle some shorter runs dressed as the charity’s mascot Harry Bear to raise even more money.
