Town topple higher league Trafford in F.A Cup

WARRINGTON Town progressed to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup claiming the scalp of higher league near neighbours Trafford with a 1-0 victory after the visitors were reduced to 10 men.
The only goal of the game came in the first half when Ben Wharton (pictured top) lobbed the keeper, with his effort hitting the post and then being handled by Trafford’s Steve Mason on the line.
The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty and showing a straight red to Mason, with Scott Metcalfe stepping up and smashing the ball into the roof of the net.
Warrington squandered numerous chances to increase the scoreline although Trafford will have felt they should have had at least one penalty, if not two in the the second half, while at the other ended Warrington’s Steve Foster smashed a shot against the post and then lobbed over the bar when one on one with the keeper.
