THE local elections are looming in Warrington on Thursday May 22 and will also involve the European elections.
I realise more than half of you reading this column will not bother voting because you will feel it will make no difference.
Please don’t waste your vote – make the effort to go out and put your X next to the person you think will represent your community best in the town hall and best in the European Parliament.
There is no point complaining about the outcomes of elections if you haven’t voted.
During my work in the community I see “politicians” from all parties – some good, some bad, some in different.
It is our job to make sure those who are elected do a good job – and the only way we can do that is to go out and vote.
Don’t be blinkered by the party machines or the propaganda we sometimes see on leaflets. Don’t take any notice of the political point scoring which goes – just simple sit back for a few minutes, think about who you have actually seen or heard about doing their bit in the local community – and put your cross against their name.
If they have been doing their job properly, or are planning to do their job properly, you will have somehow heard about them – forget what colour their rosette is – vote for the best person for the job!
I know there are people out there who put people before politics – and they are the ones we need fighting our corner in the community and Europe.
Use your vote wisely!
