Man attacked in park

POLICE today appealed for information from the public following an attack on a man in a Warrington park.
The victim of the assault suffered a serious injury to his jaw and required hospital treatment.
A 24-year-old man was in Victoria Park on July 6 with a friend. They split up because they were looking for a relative of the victim’s friend, who was believed to be in the park.
The victim approached a group of about 10 girls and boys believed to be aged 15-18 and asked if they had seen the relative.
At some point after this, he was assaulted by one of the group and was later found by his friend, lying unconscious on the ground.
DC Nat Lewis, who is investigating the incident, said: “The victim has no recollection of what happened. He remembers speaking to the group and then waking up in hospital having sustained a broken jaw.
“It was a particularly nasty attack as the victim had not seen the offender and believes that he was struck from behind with no warning.
“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area at the time and has seen anything significant to contact us.
“I am urging anyone who was in the group to come forward and speak to us as they may have witnessed what happened or have significant information, which could assist with our enquiries.”
One of the girls in the group was wearing a pink velour tracksuit and one of the boys was on a bike.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101.
