A WARRINGTON supermarket has been given the go-ahead to build a 61 sq metre extension, to provide a pharmacy department.
The borough council’s planning committee approved the scheme at Asda, Westbrook, despite fears expressed by several members that the extension amounted to “creeping development.”
Cllr Keith Gleave said a similar previous application was refused because of traffic and the pipeline.
He believed the new proposal represents “creepage” to a similar position.
There were also concerns that adding a pharmacy to the supermarket could damage an existing chemists’ shop.
But planning officers argued that the small increase in size would be “negligible.”

Why allow ASDA to build a chemists and so destroy an existing business which isn't owned by Americans????
Talk about stupid councillors. The existing chemist shop will now likely close and there will be a net loss of jobs as ASDA will just use existing staff to man their new bit…. Good old Labour strikes again for the working man
