Housing trust backs bargains website

WARRINGTON’S Golden Gates Housing Trust (GGHT) is backing “Smarterbuys”, a new website that offers customers the chance to buy essential goods at massively discounted prices.
The Trust hopes Smarterbuys – which offers a different deal every month – could help its customers during the difficult economic times.
Smarterbuys offers customers a range of payment options such as debit card, cash, or access to low-interest, affordable finance through credit unions.
GGHT will also be helping its customers who don’t have internet access at home by providing details in its customer newsletter about places in Warrington where they can access the internet free of charge.
Peter Mercer, chief executive of the Trust, said: “Many people are finding it hard to cope in the current financial climate and we hope that the new site will help our customers to make their money go further.
“By using the site customers will also be directed to credit union services and this is one of several initiatives we are introducing to increase membership of credit unions and ensure our customers are aware that there are alternatives to high interest stores and loan sharks.
“Membership of a credit union can offer real benefits in terms of financial advice and support, as well as savings and low interest loans.”
The first Smarterbuys deal allows people to choose from a single, double or king size mattress or complete divan bed from as little as £69 including delivery. The site is aimed at social housing residents and those on lower incomes, but is free for all to use.
