THE third English Half Marathon is set to take place at Victoria Park, Warrington this Sunday September 18, starting at 9am.
The Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon will start and finish in Victoria Park but in order to stage this exciting event, which is set to attract thousands of runners, organisers may need to restrict access to some areas of it during the lead up to and on the weekend of the actual event.
On the morning of the race roads in the south of the borough will begin to close from 5am onwards and a number of road diversions will be in place to keep traffic moving.
Emergency access will be maintained for the duration of the event and local and urgent access will be maintained wherever possible.
Yellow traffic signs are now out on affected routes for the information of road users. Please bear the closures and diversions in mind if you have somewhere to be on Sunday morning.
Mike James, race director from Big-Q Events said: “We are doing all we can to minimise disruption to residents and road users, including reopening roads on a rolling programme.
“We have been and continue to work with the council, police, ambulance and the fire services on road closures and diversions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for runners, spectators and local residents.”

Once again Latchford Albion ARLFC, who pay thousands of pounds each year to the council for the use of these facilities are cast aside, without a thought, and most certainly without a rebate, as a Sunday morning is when they play games, and cannot therefore play at home.
Well done Warrington Council, instead of helping to keep kids off the streets, and giving them somewhere to be active, and to represent their team, and indeed, village with pride, you cast them aside without forethought. Why does it not surprise me though.
Alternative arrangements have been made for Latchford to play away games this weekend.
