A NEW art gallery is to open in Warrington town centre, offering a dedicated exhibition space for local and regional artists.
The gallery, which will also have an on-site bistro, is to open around the middle of next month at Bank Quay House, opposite Warrington Town Hall.
Developers Python Properties, who own the building, see the gallery as complementing the regeneration of the town centre, helping to attract people and businesses into the town.
It is their second venture into the art world as they already have the successful pythongallery in Middlesborough, which opened three years ago.
Local artist Emma Kelly, 24, has been appointed curator at the gallery.
She said: “I aim to give local artists an additional opportunity to exhibit and add to the breadth of facilities in the growing Cultural Quarter of Warrington. The gallery already has exciting projects lined up with artists across the North West keen to get involved.”
The Gallery at Bank Quay House will showcase a range of exhibitions with a range of creative artistic mediums from print to photography and installation art. Alongside its support for local artists the gallery will also be working with Warrington Collegiate to exhibit pieces created by the college’s art students.
Python Properties spokesman Martin Johnson said: “We hope the gallery will not only celebrate and exhibit local art work but will also act as an incentive and catalyst for further creativity and regeneration in the region. From our work with the pythongallery we understand the clear link between the arts and regeneration, and fully expect the gallery, with its on-site bistro, to create a relaxing and inspiring space that people will both wish to visit and work next to”
Coun Bob Timmis, the borough council’s executive member for Leisure and Skills, said: “We are pleased to welcome The Gallery At Bank Quay House to Warrington’s cultural quarter. Their work will complement the extensive community art activities already supported by the council through Pyramid and the Museum and Art Gallery, and we wish them every success.”
