THE Azores is becoming a place more and more people are looking to visit, located in the Atlantic Ocean and is predominately Portuguese.
There are flights from Gatwick and Manchester (this has a touchdown in Gatwick just on the outbound flight), departures from Manchester are on Saturdays. It is possible to book your golf clubs, bicycles and diving equipment on to the flight at an extra cost. The least rainfall is in June, July and August but Sept temperatures range up to 73 degrees with up to 34mm of rain in the month.
There are 9 islands within the Azores i.e. Sao Miguel, Santa Maria, Terceira, Pico, Flores, Graciosa, Corvo, San Jorge and Faial. The islands offer a variety of activities, Sao Miguel being the largest and this is where the airport is. This island is know as the Green Island and here you can experience walking tours, kayaking, big game fishing, bird watching, golf, swimming with dolphins, whale and dolphin watching, jeep safari etc.
Santa Maria is known as the Island of the Sun and is the oldest island, Christopher Columbus landed here in 1493. It is only 6 miles wide and 11 miles long, walking is a favourite on this island. These two islands are known as the Eastern Islands
The Central Islands are made up of Terceira (the Lilac Island), Sao Jorge (the Brown Island), Graciosa (the White Island), Pico (the Grey Island) and Faial (the Blue Island) On these islands the activities include Horse Riding, Island Tours, Jeep Safari, Natural Rock Swimming, Scuba Diving, Walking, Whale and Dolphin watching, there are golf courses on Terceira and Faial.
The other 2 islands are in the West which consist of Flores (the Atlantic’s Garden) and Corvo (the Black Island) Activities on these are similar to the Central Islands plus kayaking.
There are tours available that will let you experience several islands or you can do this independently, internal flights and ferries operate between the islands. We can tailor make your holiday – booking flights and hotels on the different islands with the internal connecting flight or ferry and even twin centre this with a stay in Portugal or Madeira.
